Volume 2 | Chapter 8: August (Down) – Part 3
“Stopppppp!!” I shouted.
Shit. But even as I thought that and closed my mouth shut, it was too late.
I asked myself, why did you go as far as holding your breath to hide yourself? Why did you wait silently for Kazu-nii’s arrival? Why the heck did you shout when you did your very best not to get noticed?
Ah, but I still shouted! My mind went blank for a moment there. I couldn’t help or stop myself at all.
— Tsukishima-bishounen is a violinist. If his fingers break, it’ll be a disaster!
I quickly spun on my heel in order to run away. However, it was too late. The guys were already there. I didn’t get the chance to escape and they twisted my arm up.
Crap, crap, crap, crap!
Even if I wanted to move nimbly, I was wearing a yukata right now. My shoes were wooden clogs, my hair was pinned up with a kanzashi, and most of all, I couldn’t even wear this yukata on my own. There goes my dream of avoiding rough movements that will make my yukata get messy and loose!
“What are you doing here peeking on us? Hmm~?” The boss was smirking broadly. Ugh, he’s disgusting. “What’s this? You’re pretty cute. You have pretty good timing, let’s bring her with us to make the other girls drop their guard.”
Even if you compliment my looks, I’m not a bit one happy here!?
I could feel the blood drain my face. My arm hurt so much that I couldn’t say a word. I tried struggling but my strength versus his was seas apart. But there’s no way I want to follow them obediently! I desperately tried to fight back in order to escape. However, one of the guys pinned me down.
Ow, ow, it hurtssss! My kanzashi slipped, making my hair scatter down.
“Whoa, she looks quite sexy now,” the boss said, smirking as he gazed at me. I was in a horrible state with both my yukata and hair in a mess.
Meanwhile, Tsukishima-bishounen was dumbfounded.
Just like that, I was bought by those guys deeper into the shrine grounds.
Frankly, I was in a pinch.
Tsukishima-bishounen and I were captured by the gang and had our wrists tied behind our backs. Eventually, we were thrown into a car parked in front of the shrine’s back entrance. The said car was one of those station wagons with the back windows covered up.
This must be the car they dragged girls into. Looking at how the windows were covered up, it really reeked of a crime. Actually, weren’t these guys high school students? Where’s their license? Does that mean one of the members were over 18 years old? What the hell are you doing when you are nearly in your 20s?
When they tied my wrists, they also confiscated my cell phone. Damn it. It was times like this that a cell phone was helpful, yet I couldn’t call the police like this.
My left wooden clog fell off when I was thrown inside the car. But if anything, I thought that was lucky. To begin with, I doubt I could run quickly wearing them anyways. I shook my right leg to make the other wooden clog fall off before observing the windshield to see what was happening outside the car.
There was one guy on standby outside. I could see how he was littering a can of juice he finished drinking. He’s asking for punishment to do it right in front of a shrine. How about properly throwing away the can in a garbage can?
It seems the other members returned towards the festival. Don’t tell me there were trying to increase the number of victims?
Tsukishima-bishounen was still in shock. I didn’t feel like cheering him up but it was awkward, so I tried talking to him.
“Are those guys your friends?” I asked with the idea of punching him if he said yes.
Tsukishima-bishounen shook his head. “Acquaintances…… I didn’t want to go home, so I wandered around the shopping district and met them there one day. We hung out together a few times.”
“If you learned your lesson with this then never see them again. Don’t make friends with anyone who would say they’ll break your fingers, even if it’s a joke. If your fingers do break, you won’t be able to play the violin anymore,” I warned him.
“…Why do you know? About me playing the violin.”
“Just about any student from the academy will know that once in a while a pretty boy will play a violin in the church,” I replied. Well, I’m sure the number of people who actually saw him playing was very low though.
“So that’s how it is,” Tsukishima-bishounen mumbled. I guessed he had been trying to keep it a secret how he played the violin. “You don’t learn your lessons either. Did you forget how I tried to blackmail you for money?”
Of course I remember! But the way he said it made me pissed off. “I wasn’t planning on helping you to begin with,” I said. “To be honest, it was my own fault. ……I just found myself shouting without meaning to.”
Ugh… In any case, even if we do manage to escape, showing my dishevelled yukata to people will be way too embarrassing. If I knew how to wear it, I could at least head to the washroom and clean myself up.
Such thoughts ran in my mind as I calmed down a bit.
I was captured together with Tsukishima-bishounen. This was probably one of Maria-jou’s events. While I didn’t know much about otome games, if this was supposed to be a romance event, there should be help somewhere.
Let’s see, the event could be about Tsukishima-bishounen captured by bad friends. Maria-jou would then raise up to rescue him. However, would Maria-jou’s heart skip with this undependable hero? Or was this an event to kick Tsukishima-bishounen into an honest man and then the two nurture love together?
Does it really work that way?
Suddenly, I felt eyes on me. When I turned to my side, I noticed Tsukishima-bishounen looking at me with a questioning look.
“You’re not going to panic or blame me?” He asked.
“If I scream and cry, the guy on watch might notice. More importantly, Tsukishima-bishounen, could you turn over that way?”
I called him with the nickname in my mind, and he responded with a dumb-looking face. I didn’t pay attention and examined his back instead.
Hm, hm, hmm. Those foolish amateurs. Just like I thought, they half-heartedly tied the rope together. This time I turned my back to Tsukishima-bishounen and moved my fingers up and down. That was why he realized what I was trying to say and do.
The two of us faced our backs to each other as I reached my fingers out. First, I tried tugging on the rope around his wrists. Maybe I pulled it too strongly, but Tsukishima-bishounen let out a small cry in pain. Still, who the hell cares.
“Hey, don’t stick so close……!”
Tsukishima-bishounen squirmed. Hey, I just need a little bit more, so don’t move.
Finally, I managed to untie his ropes. Next is my turn. Come, come, I turned around with this intention. I noticed Tsukishima-bishounen had a mixed expression on his face. I was puzzled and also noted how his cheeks were red.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“No, it’s just… the way you look right now is a little bit too dangerous,” he replied.
“Don’t say stuff like that with a pretty face.” Jeez, you sure have time to think about other things, hmm? You don’t have any sense of danger at all.
I glared at him and made him untie my ropes. Now that both of our hands were free, it was time to devise an escape plan. It was easy to open the doors of this car — the problem was after. If we don’t ensure our escape route and get captured again in the worst case scenario, we will be tied up properly next. No, if we weren’t careful, there was a possibility of them getting violent too. Anyways, if we want to run, we have to escape for sure.
We were currently in the back entrance of the shrine. My cell phone was no longer with me… Ah, jeez. Where did I drop my belongings? Back when I got captured?
The fastest approach is to run from the back entrance into the festival grounds. We could run past the front of the main shrine into the crowds. However, was that really possible? Will we be able to get past the guard and not get captured? Also, I can’t run with my dishevelled yukata.
Wait, when you exit the back entrance and head straight left, there was an office for the shrine. How about going there?
“Tsukishima-bishounen, would you prefer being the decoy or the sprinter to the shrine office?” I asked.
“Could you stop calling me that?” Tsukishima-bishounen retorted. Does he think he can really argue against me? He doesn’t plan on reforming one bit, huh.
When I think about it, the gang should be wandering around the festival grounds looking for their next prey. As such, rushing into the shrine office as quickly as possible and calling the police would be more effective.
“Then the two of us will have to sprint as fast as we could,” I called out to him.
I picked up my wooden clog and moved to leave the car.
At that very moment, our eyes met the eyes of a high school boy with an ugly face. There was more than one guy on watch?
Crap. I didn’t foresee this happening. I meant to leave in the direction where the guard wasn’t looking and opened the door to see a guard.
“R-Run, Tsukishima-kun!” I shouted and pointed my finger in the direction of the shrine office.
Thankfully, Tsukishima-bishounen also started running a tempo late. While I was number two in long-distance running for girls, that is only when I’m wearing clothes easy to exercise in and with proper shoes. Also, the said ranking was for long-distance and had nothing to do with short distance sprinting.
My speed after the disadvantages of yukata plus bare feet was obvious. Tsukishima-bishounen left me behind in no time and I was left alone. The ground under my feet wasn’t gravel but concrete. My wrists hurt, the back of my feet hurt too; who the hell could I vent this frustration at?
“Annoying woman!” Tsukishima-bishounen shouted, stopping his feet when he noticed I stumbled. Don’t stop here, hurry up and call the police! I shouted in my mind.
“I caught ya~” The guy said as he grabbed my arm with amusement in his tone.
Damn it all. I should have learned a martial art move or two! I tried turning around and hitting him with my wooden clog. Unfortunately, my hand flew elsewhere. I couldn’t put power into my arms properly.
“L-Let go……!” Next I tried to shake off his hand. Sadly, this guy didn’t know he needed to be easier on girls. He twisted my arm making a scream slipped from my lips. “It hurts……!”
Crap, is it all over for us? Uwaaah! Someone! Help! But while I was glaring at the guy, I noticed something that made me snap my eyes wide.
Power slipped away from my body, making me drop my wooden clog down on to the ground.
“You’re giving up already? What~ That’s so boring—” The guy’s words were cut halfway. He was distracted by me and didn’t notice the shadow creeping from behind him.
The shadow was Katsuragi-kun. He struck his hand against the guy’s neck and immediately afterwards the guy collapsed forward. Since he was grabbing my arm, the two of us tumbled down on to the ground.
“A-Agh…” The guy groaned.
Ugh… I’m hurting here too… My whole body was protesting; I didn’t know where the pain originates from anymore. Somehow, I managed to sit up and looked up to observe my surroundings mutely.
I absentmindedly noticed how Yumi-chna was frantically rushing my way. She looked like an angel. Super cute. Was this heaven?
I also noticed how familiar looking people followed behind Yumi-chan one after another. The first was Maria-jou dashing into the scene a bit after Yumi-chan. Tsuchiya-shounen followed while being wary of the surrounding area. Kazu-nii was phoning someone as he ran.
Lately, I saw Tsukishima-bishounen holding a large rock in his hands as he came back from the rear entrance. Don’t tell me you plan on using that as a weapon. Jeez, he’s scary.
“I’m so glaaaaaaaad!!!”
“Agkyu!?” Yumi-chan jumped on me with a hug. Meanwhile, I screamed because my yukata rubbed against my grazes. It hurts~! “A-Ahhh, ughh…. t-thank you… b-but let go…”
“Uwaaaaa! Shiori-chan! Shiori-chan! Shiori-channnn!!” Rub, rub, rub. Yumi-chan patted my body all over with all her might.
Yumi-chan let go when she made doubly sure I was alive. As for me, I tried checking on myself before anything else.
My face… will be okay, I think. But there were scratches all over my legs and my yukata was ruined. This was a big disaster. Here and there was stained with blood and I had wounds all over. I felt wet all over. It was pretty horrible.
“Ah~ …And I received this yukata as a present,” I mumbled. I’ve only worn this yukata twice. I feel like even if I send this yukata to a traditional clothing cleaning service, it won’t return back to before. Perhaps the bright side to this was that we already sent a picture of me wearing it to Grandma.
“Who cares about your yukata! Shiori-chan’s safety and health is number one! We’re sending you home no matter what! And calling an ambulance, okay!?” Yumi-chan yelled angrily.
“No, I don’t think I’m hurt enough to ride an ambulance…” I tried to convince her but Kazu-nii interrupted me next. It seems his phone call ended.
“Katsuragi, Tsukishima, Niimi, and Sasaki, could you stay behind? I’ll be here too. Since we did knock out people, we’re calling the ambulance and the police. But make sure none of you speak to the police so that they don’t start questioning you what happened. I’ll do all the answering. Niimi, Tsukishima, I’ll be bringing you two to the hospital afterwards. Aikawa, Tsuchiya, you two head home. And, Tsuchiya, this is important but deny any involvement in this cause your national tournament just ended recently,” Kazu-nii instructed all of us.
He then stepped forward to approach me. He took off his jacket and put it around my shoulders. “……Sorry,” he said like he squeezed out those words. “For being late.”
Kazu-nii sounded so frustrated that I smiled tiredly. “I’m sorry for causing trouble to everyone,” I apologized as a student and bowed my head. For some reason, Kazu-nii looked hurt.
Now then, Katsuragi-kun had actually left his little sister behind in the festival in a hurry. Katsuragi-kun, Maria-jou, and Tsuchiya-shounen went off together to look for the little sister once again. We planned on speaking to the police after Katsuragi-kun brought his little sister back home.
As for me, after the session of simple questioning, I was told to see a doctor on my own. Unfortunately, the ambulance was full with delinquents dead after being punched and stuff. Well, I only had scratches and grazes, so it was fine.
Yumi-chan was my escort. Kazu-nii had an extremely mixed expression before he handed a couple of 10,000 yen bills. It was probably for the taxi and medical fees. Yumi-chan carried my belongings and kanzashi for me. Ah, I don’t have my insurance card with me. I wonder if it’ll be okay.
“Sasaki, sorry but please keep an eye on her,” Kazu-nii said.
“Yes! I will make sure she doesn’t do anything reckless. Please don’t worry,” Yumi-chan nodded as she gripped her hand into a fist.
Yumi-chan was mad the whole time in the taxi.
“Shiori-chan, you were way too reckless. It turned out okay cause Katsuragi-kun was coincidentally around, but what would have happened if he wasn’t? Plus, if we didn’t run into him at the pool that day, I wouldn’t have known Katsuragi-kun at all. I couldn’t ask him for help either!”
“I’m sorry. I’m really, really thankful. I was just going to spy on them but they easily found me.”
“It’s weird to think they wouldn’t find you at all! In the first place…” Yumi-chan stopped there before she described what happened after I left her.
□ ■ □
Yumi-chan could only watch my back dumbfounded as I ran off thoughtlessly to chase after Tsukishima-bishounen.
In Yumi-chan’s eyes, she thought the teenage boy who called out to Tsukishima-bishounen was his friend. She couldn’t imagine any danger between the two. Still, since I was acting strange, she couldn’t help but get extremely uneasy.
“She’s heading deep into the shrine grounds…? Wait!? C-Could it be.. Shiori-chan!?” Yumi-chan recalled the rumours she heard from Kazu-nii and Iinchou.
She connected the phrases: [Shiori-chan’s acting strange], [a group of high school boys], and [violence and cruelty] in her head. That was when all she could imagine was a group of high school boys doing indecent things to a girl deep in the shrine grounds.
What exactly could a gang of guys do to girls on a festival day with many people around? Then again, what the gang planned on doing wasn’t so far from Yumi-chan’s delusion, which was scary.
“This is bad! At this rate, something super bad will happen to Shiori-chan!” Yumi-chan shouted. She ran off in a panic, looking for Kazu-nii.
However, it was nighttime by now and the grounds were dark. On top of that, there were too many people that it was quite difficult to locate just one person.
‘But who knows what would happen to Shiori-chan if I gave up!’ Yumi-chan thought. Incidentally, Yumi-chan didn’t know Tsukishima-bishounen personally, so she didn’t care about what would happen to him at all.
Anyways, Yumi-chan imagined me, with no way to fight back, being treated violently and this and that by multiple guys. She panicked more.
She was first able to find Maria-jou and Tsuchiya-shounen. Apparently, Maria-jou was just feeding shaved ice to Tsuchiya-shounen with ‘Ahh~’. Yumi-chan thought that shaved ice was, with no doubt, blue hawaii. Tsuchiya-shounen looked shy and embarrassed; for whatever reason, it pissed Yumi-chan off.
She made them join the Kazu-nii search party.
“Shiori-chan’s in big trouble! Please help me find Hibiya-sensei!” Yumi-chan cried. Maria-jou and Tsuchiya-shounen were taken aback how desperate she sounded. “She’s been captured by guys deep at the shrine!”
At this point, Yumi-chan already believed I failed my attempt in chasing after Tsukishima-bishounen. Well, it was true but still!
Anyways, Yumi-chan panicked and panicked some more in a hurry. The couple didn’t understand the situation and tried asking for more details in their confusion. Yumi-chan didn’t believe she had the time to explain properly in detail though.
“Anyways, we just need to find Hibiya-sensei and—” Yumi-chan pleaded.
“What’s wrong?” It was at this moment that Katsuragi-kun called out to the three.
He was about to take his little sister home, but he stopped when he noticed the three arguing with serious expressions on their faces.
According to Yumi-chan, Maria-jou was surprised to see Katsuragi-kun. Maybe she was anxious to see Katsuragi-kun when she already had Tsuchiya-shounen by her side. However, she quickly went back to her usual state in no time.
“Niimi-san is in trouble,” Maria-jou explained.
“Shiori-chan’s been kidnapped!” Yumi-chan shouted. By now, the situation worsened even more in her delusions.
When Katsuragi-kun heard that, his expression changed.
It wasn’t efficient to search together, so they split up into pairs of Maria-jou plus Tsuchiya-shounen and Yumi-chan plus Katsuragi-kun. However, because Yumi-chan shouted that I was deep in the shrine grounds, Katsuragi-kun ran off in that direction without consulting anyone.
Next, Yumi-chan found Iinchou and Matsumoto-kun.
Iinchou noticed Yumi-chan was alone and asked, “Where’s Niimi-san?”
“Shiori-chan fell into the hands of men!”
Just how exactly where Yumi-chan’s delusion progressed was something I couldn’t guess anymore. Anyways, Iinchou was surprised by how distressed Yumi-chan was.
“Where is she?” Iinchou asked.
Wait, Iinchou? Why are you skipping all the other questions to this one? Is me kidnapped already a sure thing inside your mind?
“Deep inside the shrine grounds!”
“At any rate, let’s hurry to find out. If it’s Niimi-san, I think she might be fine still.”
What do you mean by still? Yumi-chan thankfully calmed down with Iinchou’s words. The three of them hurried deeper inside the shrine grounds. But this was where Yumi-chan got swept away from the crowd and separated from Iinchou and Matsumoto-kun.
Yumi-chan panicked once again and headed off by herself.
She met Maria-jou, Tsuchiya-shounen, and Kazu-nii, who were also deep in the shrine grounds at this time, probably near where I was captured as well. Maria-jou had magnificently found Kazu-nii.
Yumi-chan noticed there was an unfamiliar guy down on the ground at Kazu-nii’s feet. She spotted a Sorayume Man mask nearby and shouted, “This is Shiori-chan’s!”
Kazu-nii picked up my kanzashi lying on the ground and in his distraught, he called out to Maria-jou. “Aikawa, do you have any idea where Niimi could have been taken?”
Oi, Kazu-nii. If you think about this normally, there’s no way Maria-jou would know. However, he was probably thinking I got mixed up in one of her events, so he asked. Still, I have to point out that if you ask something like this, she’ll get suspicious.
That being said, Yumi-chan didn’t question why Maria-jou would know this information at all.
“Aikawa-san, you know!? Where!?” Yumi-chan cried as she grabbed Maria-jou, jolting her violently back and forth.
Maria-jou was shaken and shook her head. “Any idea? Even if you ask……”
Tsuchiya-shounen stepped into the two. “Sasaki, there’s no way Aikawa would know.”
And he had a point.
Katsuragi-kun showed up here, out of breath. “……If they moved from here then they’ll be in a corner where no one is around,” he told the others before pointing even deeper in the shrine grounds.
“Behind… the shrine…? Ah!” Maria-jou snapped her head up. “The rear entrance! If we can still make it then they might be there!” She told Yumi-chan.
Maria-jou was very shaken by the turn of events. As such, she blurted out something without thinking. “But why? I still haven’t triggered anything……!”
Yumi-chan clearly had these strange words from Maria-jou. However, she didn’t understand the meaning at all. As for whether or not someone else heard those strange words, I didn’t know.
Afterwards, they all ran towards the rear entrance of the shrine.
□ ■ □
“And, as you can see, it was mostly thanks to me that Shiori-chan is safe and sound. You should treat me to a chocolate parfait later,” Yumi-chan declared.
“I will happily treat you to a parfait later. I would also like to formally thank everyone who cooperated on a later date,” I said before bowing my head down low.
Yumi-chan beamed and handed back my Sorayume Man mask. Alrighty, let’s take this home and decorate my room with it as proof of my friendship with Yumi-chan.
“You know…… Even if it was an emergency, I feel bad for interrupting Aikawa-san’s date…” Yumi-chan looked apologetic after all this time passed. Well, it was true that Yumi-chan purposely interrupted their date because she got irritated with the whole ‘Ahh~ With shaved ice’ and got them involved.
When I think about how the two of them rushed onto the scene to save me, I felt extremely sorry.
“I was saved thanks to their help… So I want to properly thank them later. Also, when did those two start dating?” I asked while thinking I was pretty shameless pretending not to know a thing. I decided to chuckle inside my mind instead.
I warmly welcome any progress in Maria-jou and Tsuchiya-shounen’s relationship. As such, I want to nonchalantly lay the groundwork for the future couple like this, starting with Yumi-chan.
Incidentally, if Yumi-chan’s recollection was accurate, it meant that she lost Iinchou and Matsumoto-kun and they were still somewhere. It would probably be best to contact them. “Yumi-chan, I’m sorry. I want to contact Iinchou, so could you give me my cell phone?”
She handed me back my belongings and I fished out my cell phone. It seems I have two unread messages.
“Come to think of it, Shiori-chan, you said you’ll message me but you didn’t.”
“Eh?” I looked up, surprised. I remember sending a message though…?
This was where I realized that I sent a message to Kazu-nii and not Yumi-chan. Crap, that was dangerous.
The two messages were from Iinchou and Kazu-nii. Iinchou asked [Are you okay?] and Kazu-nii said [Contact me when you reach the hospital].
Ahhh, I made them worried.
I sent a message to Iinchou first. [Sorry for making you worried. I’m okay. I’m heading to the hospital now.]
“I knew Hibiya-sensei cared a lot for his students,” Yumi-chan commented like she was rethinking back on everything. “He was really pale when he found your kanzashi. Also, it was amazing he knew it belonged to you.”
“…….Hmm, isn’t it because he saw it when we met earlier?” I replied, pretending like it was nothing special.
If it was Yumi-chan, I wouldn’t mind telling her that Kazu-nii was my cousin. But it was something hard to say for as long as Kazu-nii remains our homeroom teacher.
“Also, Katsuragi-kun was amazing! He was so strong that it was a little scary though……” Yumi-chan told me all about his great efforts. “Seeing someone punching another person in reality is scarier than I thought.”
Yumi-chan had a point. I mean, in martial art tournaments, it was scary seeing the contestant’s hands cover up in blood. My senses had numbed with relief after being saved. If it hadn’t, I might have felt fear towards Katsuragi-kun.
“I’m going to escort you all the way home today,” Yumi-chan declared.
And like she said she would, she followed me all the way back home after I had my injuries looked at in the hospital.
As such, I sent the following message to Kazu-nii: [Yumi-chan’s escorting me home, so go back to your apartment today].
TL note: In short —
Yumi-chan: Shiori-chan is going to end up like my R18 doujinshis!!!
Shiori-chan: Wait what??
